Michael was born in Doncaster at a very young age on 20th February 1987, weighing in at 8lb 13oz. Living in Cantley he attended Hawthorne Junior School, moving up to Hallcross School at 11yo, in the summer of 2003 he finished his full-time education.

From an early age Michael showed good sports co-ordination and enjoyed playing tennis, cricket, and baseball. At 10yo he began Go-Kart racing and was making great progress with his eye on a career in motorsports. To his mum's relief, at the age of 12 he became interested in golf .....with a passion.

Michael's early sporting interests of hitting a moving ball with a bat made hitting a stationary ball with a stick relatively easy. Early success and recognition started his determination to carve out a path to the pinnacle as a golfer.

Since leaving school Michael has been a "Full Time Amateur" golfer, practising and playing almost every day in preparation for competition, in 2004 between 26th March & 19th September Michael played 102 competitive rounds of golf. As he was only 17 on the 1st January he is classed as an U18 for the 2005 season, it would be his last year as a junior golfer.

A Friendly place where Michael feels "at home", he's now well known at the club and almost everyone stops to ask how he's been doing. At 6ft tall and 13st he's no longer "the little lad" that joined as a 13 year old.

Doncaster GC  Scratch team. Right to Left Michael Beck Andy Bradley Mike Cummins (team manager)  Graeme Clark Michael Hempstock.

Michael has been very fortunate that DGC has such terrific people, Ray and Jane feed him very well, Graham Bailey (Pro) has supported him, Mike Cummins has had the belief and conviction to select him to play in everything despite his age. Playing with this team in competition has shapened him up, Becks is now the assistant pro at DGC, Blondie is a regular county first team player and Sniffer with more England caps than David Beckham is now playing for dough on the Europro Tour. The midweek fiddlers Billy, Barry, Ken, Denis, Dave, Blondie, Sniffer, etc keep him on his toes by letting him pay for the Tea & Toast and last but not least the members who turn up to watch and support, Sue, Arthur, Joe, Arthur, Maurice, Graham, to name just a few.

A lighter moment just before the 3rd round of the Henry Cooper   Junior Masters   Nizels GC        where  Mick       "got down to business" Starting Birdie, Birdie, Birdie, Eagle, Par Birdie.

Played over 72 holes in two days Michael finished 13th in a very strong International field.

Michael on the practice ground, at Broadstone GC (Dorset)  Michael is quite shy so there are not many photo's of him in action on the course, I took a photo of him teeing off the first tee at Rotherham GC, with the telephoto lens from miles away and he just glared at me, he said he heard the shutter at the top of his swing........oops........ .........glad he's not like Monty.
